Sephora opens in Glasgow

Sephora will open in Glasgow after launching its first store in Scotland, in Edinburgh’s St James centre, earlier this summer. ‘Contemporary Kiltmaking: What Makes a Kilt’ in Edinburgh

A new exhibition and Edinburgh Fringe event will champion the art and craft of kiltmaking, exploring the heritage of the traditional Scottish garment through a contemporary lens.
The collaboration between the Scottish Textiles Showcase, bespoke kiltmaker Andrea Chappell and the Dye, Weave, Pleat project celebrates what is now an endangered craft, looking at the practice of kiltmaking, traditional pleating techniques and their contemporary translations.

Fringe by the Sea Festival’s new ‘Love of Life (biophilia)’ programme showcases new works by some of Scotland’s finest creative talent, celebrating the joy of deepening connections with nature and each other. Composer Erland Cooper is paying respect to North Berwick and the Northern Gannet in new music revealed in a sonic ‘NEST’ at the festival, which was designed by artist Naomi Mcintosh and is nestled in a sycamore grove.

‘Growing Pains’ by Lindsey Mendick at Jupiter+ Nation in Dumfries

Growing Pains is a striking, site-specific multimedia installation by award-winning artist Lindsey Mendick. Referencing her own teenage years in the early 2000s, Mendick transforms the former commercial office space into a haunting, humorous and deeply immersive environment exploring the uncertainty, awkwardness and social hierarchies of adolescence.

Sunday Series at The Palmerston in Edinburgh

The Palmerston will mark festival season by welcoming chef friends from Edinburgh and Glasgow for the Sunday Series, a trio of dinner takeovers inspired by the cuisines of Asia.
Kicking off the series on Sunday 16th August is Ghar, a progressive Indian dining project based in Edinburgh founded by Bombay-born chef Yash Rajpal. On the 23rd, sisters Fariya and Sahar Sharif, the duo behind Glasgow’s much-loved Parveen’s, will cook up a menu inspired by their Pakistani heritage. Rounding off the series on the 30th is a Thai feast by Tida Bradshaw of Moo Noi, a pop-up concept mixing Scottish produce with the big, bold herbal flavours of Northern Thailand.

‘Superstructure’ public artwork by Turner Prize-winning artist Jasleen Kaur in Glasgow

The work is one of the signature commissions of Glasgow 2026 Festival, a ten-week celebration of Glasgow’s world-renowned culture, creativity and people, which runs alongside the Commonwealth Games (funded by Commonwealth Sport). The commission features a series of eight weathervane-like sculptures installed at key sites along the River Clyde connected to its history of trade, industry and empire.

‘A Dairy Story’ UK cinema release at The Cameo in Edinburgh

Should a newborn dairy calf be separated from its mother? It is the most divisive question in dairy farming. A Dairy Story follows farmers David and Wilma Finlay of Rainton Farm in Dumfries and Galloway, as they abandon conventional methods and transition their farm to become the first in Europe to make a cow-with-calf dairy system commercially viable. What begins as a question of animal welfare opens into a film about climate, environment and, ultimately, something far more personal: a story about change, about trusting nature, and about the time we have together.
