Looking to add character to your home? H&IS has curated a list of some of the best galleries in Scotland to help you find captivating pieces that reflect your personality
This post contains paid-for content
We have compiled a list of some of Scotland’s finest galleries and art shops, from inner city studios to craft stores based in the Highlands. The businesses below were selected because of their commitment to platforming some of Scotland’s most talented artists and championing traditional crafting practices. We’ve also included an artist spotlight, too, as a wee bonus.
The Perthshire Gallery
What: A haven of beautiful things, showing everything from paintings, ceramics and jewellery to sculpture, print-making and textiles.
Where: 14 Bonnethill Road Pitlochry, Perthshire PH16 5BS
The Perthshire Gallery might have opened just two years ago but it has already established itself as a key part of Pitlochry life. Owner Jennifer Wheatley has a passion for art as well as a deep connection to the local area. “I’ve been spending time here since I was a child,” she says, “mainly on walking holidays with my parents.”
Jennifer has always been passionate about art, Scotland and Perthshire. “I’d collected art for many years and, as an interiors consultant, had helped clients source art for their homes, too. The gallery was a natural next step.”
The Victorian building is in the heart of the town, just a stone’s throw from Pitlochry train station, and Jennifer put a lot of work into improving the space. “I renovated and enlarged the interiors before we opened,” she explains. “It has great natural light and high ceilings, but I also added specialist lighting in order to show off the artworks.”
The whole gallery now feels very welcoming. “One of our customers described it as ‘a haven of beautiful things’, and I think that sums us up really well. We exhibit a carefully curated range of paintings, ceramics, sculpture, hand-crafted furniture, jewellery, prints and textiles.”
