Opening shot Like the ancient Egyptians before her, Myung Nam An is determined to change the popular perception of beetles as horrid creepy crawlies. The London-based ceramic artist is fascinated by the creatures. “If you look closely,” she says, “you’ll see that every insect is amazing, even cockroaches. They are incredibly intricate, detailed, beautiful, bright, exciting, funky and very desirable.” Her oversized ceramic versions bristle with invention and colour, but not (thankfully for the squeamish) with life. www.myungnaman.co.uk
