Opening shot, issue 101
OPENING SHOT: At first glance the rough grass, hills and blue water make you think this is Scotland. But check out the razor-sharp angles of the roof and the radical window frames: you don’t get those in the Highlands. This is, in fact, Te Kahu, a cedar-clad lodge in New Zealand’s South Island. Designed by Stevens Lawson Architects, it was voted the country’s home of the year. Inside, the cedar is mixed with concrete, and the views over Lake Wanaka, through those intriguing windows, are breathtaking.
