The elite of UK’s kitchen and bathroom industry gathered on the 14th November at the Tower Of London at the 2013 Designer Kitchen and Bathroom Awards.
The lavish red carpet event brought together a collective of the industry’s leading design individuals to await the highly anticipated award presentation which was hosted by television presenter, Melissa Porter, best known for her BBC programmes, Escape to the Country and To Buy or Not to Buy.
This year’s judging panel comprised of a who’s who of UK’s leading design figures including Vanessa Brady, President of the Society of British Interior Designers and chaired by chief editor of Designer Magazine Martin Allen-Smith. The judging process proved to be extremely heated and after a rigorous bout of deliberation and debate, the winners were finally selected.
The award for the UK’s Best Kitchen Designer (category under £25k) was won by Colin Wong of Edinburgh–based kitchen design studio Development Direct the 2nd year running, a first in the history of the awards. The award was presented to Colin by Simon Richmond Managing Director of Poggenpohl.
Colin was extremely proud to be recognised for the award and commented,
“The award came as a real surprise as I was actually still enjoying the recognition that last year’s award brought to my company. Time has flown by and to be not only selected as a finalist again but to actually go on and win in back to back years is truly special and something that I will cherish.
I have always worked on a pure design basis where everything else takes a back seat and it has certainly paid off with this award being the 5th national design award for my team in 2 years. It was also great to see the calibre of this year’s judging panel and the work on show of all the winners and finalists clearly illustrate that the UK have some real amazing designers at the top of their game. A sincere thanks again must go out to all my staff”.
